The dedication and experience of a consultant dermatologist should lead diagnosis, although technology helps. Digital imaging can bring an instant, accurate view beneath your skin and often avoid the need for a surgical biopsy.
Having your skin scanned with a hand held device is a relatively pleasant experience. Non invasive, yet the high resolution images our laser powered Vivascope transmits to a screen are at a cellular level.
One of few such devices in the UK, valuable for helping to diagnose pigmentation disorders, vitiligo and more. Also an asset in helping to distinguish between benign growths, or those which might be cancerous.
You avoid discomfort, or scarring, results are immediate, ideal for early treatment. Images can be stored at a wider, or microscopic level, for review, or future comparison, part of up to date dermatology.
A Modern Approach
The Vivascope uses a process called Reflectance Confocal Microscopy and is the most advanced device available to look beneath your skin. There are still times when other modern equipment can add an extra perspective.
Our clinics also offer a scanner using Optical Coherence Tomography, similar to ultrasound in a way, although multiple beams of light are used instead of sound waves. The field of view and penetration are second to none.
OCT is mainly used in the diagnosis of skin cancers but can have other dermatological applications. More traditional dermatology devices also come in different forms.
A dermascope is an example you might be familiar with from visits to a dermatologist. A hand held microscope, with the latest types able to capture images, or video. Again, using an up to date device matters.
Diagnosis At Skin Care Network
Our patients are seen by consultants who lead their field and bring knowledgeable diagnosis. Decades will be needed to create technology to replace them, if ever, yet they should still have every aid they can.
Using the latest equipment, keeping up with research, analysing progress in machine learning and genetics all add to our armoury. Offering the best possible diagnosis is at the root of patient wellbeing.
Efficient diagnosis and timely treatment are the ingredients which make dermatology work for you. Our staff are pleased to offer them, blended with traditional care.
