After undergraduate study at the University of the West Indies, Dr Crichlow completed General Medical training (MRCP) in the UK in 2003 at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. Specialist training in Dermatology followed, at University Hospitals of Leicester, concluding in 2008.
A consultant post at an NHS teaching hospital saw Dr Crichlow treat a full range of conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, infections, sun damage and skin cancer, including surgical care. During that time, she was also Educational Supervisor for the Specialist Registrars who rotated through the department in their training.
A Unique Perspective
As one who has been prone to acne from puberty through to the present day, Dr Crichlow appreciates the enormous impact this condition can have on confidence and quality of life, the treatment of acne and acne scarring is her passion!
The skills and knowledge that she has acquired in regard to treating acne are honed from both personal experience and extensive training, she is committed to ensuring that every patient under her care receives the commitment they deserve.
Other areas of interest include treating the specific issues of concern to patients with skin of colour. This includes hyperpigmentation which all too often results from the aforementioned acne, or from other inflammatory conditions.
The dual focus on aesthetic and medical aspects of disease are integral to Dr Crichlow’s work. As an experienced consultant, effective medical treatment is the priority but is allied with her recognition of the importance of cosmetic concerns as well.
She advises on good anti-ageing skincare routines and offers interventions to stall the ageing process, such as chemical peels, dermal needling, laser treatments, wrinkle relaxing injections, treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis and more.
Dr Crichlow’s professional memberships include the British Association of Dermatologists, Caribbean Dermatology Association, Royal Society of Medicine and she holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians. She has lectured nationally and internationally, along with publishing in leading medical journals.
