Botulinum Toxin Treatment

Botulinum Toxin treatment is quick, simple and most importantly safe. It is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure worldwide and is one of our most popular treatments at Skin Care Network. It was granted a licence in the UK in 2006 for the treatment of frown lines and wrinkles. And it can also be used to treat excess sweating.

It is used to treat a wide number of different areas on the face including:

How does it work?

Botulinum Toxin is an advanced therapy used to improve the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles. It started as a treatment for brow and frown lines but it was soon realized that the brows would also elevate, giving the eyes a more open, lifted look.

It works by blocking impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to facial expression and their repeated use causes the lines. A tiny needle injects a small amount of Botulinum Toxin into several areas of your face. A small amount of liquid is injected and pain is minimal. The entire process will take around ten minutes. No anaesthetic is needed but topical anaesthetic can be used if you find it painful. You can get back to your normal activities immediately.

After treatment the skin remains smooth while the untreated facial muscles contract as normal. Your facial expression does not radically change. You might have slight bruising for a little while, which can be covered with make-up.
